Hunting options?

Postby dantheman540 » Fri Feb 03, 2017 4:15 pm

Hey guys.
I haven't played HnH in over a year and we are now 2 worlds past when I played. I quit playing around the time mammoths were introduced. I used to write a lot of the hunting guides, but I'm sure a lot of the tactics I used have changed, like better path finding etc. I used to love hunting with a bow. Is bow hunting still viable and has anyone written a decent hunting guide recently?

I've kust re-downloaded the game and will start playing in the next hour or so.

There were quite a few changes to combat in general and to hunting specifically recently. I don't think there are any proper guides which are relevant atm. Cheesing/exploiting is wide, as there are several problems with "proper" hunting:

1. Animals flee. Fast. It's a pain to pursue them if you don't have a horse. Especially because you can't do damage on the first hit and have to build up openings first.
2. Every projectile shot into the animal softcaps the q of the resulting corpse.

Bow hunting is not longer viable for no good reason. Learn to hunt from a boat until you get a horse, can be done with low stats, guides all over the forum.

And a piece of advice - when you start learning combat and moves, skip the ants. Go directly for bats.

You're essentially fucked this world, squirrel/rabbit leather and meats until you have a metal industry for good curios and equipment to put up a chance taming horses, then fight melee.

Whatever you do don't touch archery, you'll end up getting better hides and meat from base q rabbits and squirrels than from a bear that's been shot 4 million times between hours of chasing and tracking across Jorb's green earth.

Or he can just kill any animal from boat with 10 UA.

Yeah good luck after they flee though. A hermit like me don't have enough friends to carry all those boats to block them in

You do not need friends to carry a boat or run two client.

solo boathunting 101

just lure them to yellow x spot and beat them from the direction white arrow points so when the animals flee they run to the direction arrow points and you can just build openings and hit till they reaggro, repeat till dead. Works with even less ideal shallow waters, just be careful and block the only way out if they try to flee that way.
