trees will turn grassland tiles into forest tiles, correct?

if so, what's the radius around the tree that it effects and how long does it take? my base has splotches of awful puke green in the middle of the beautiful verdant autumnal forest terrain

Don't think it works like that. I'm not 100% on it but I don't think we can alter the biomes yet.

Wald and other biomes will spread, but I don't know if one will straight-up replace the other. If you stomp tiles to dirt though, biomes will start to spread into the dirt, so if you're trying to spread wald (or any other kind of biome), just stomp the surrounding tiles to dirt and they'll spread out over time.

If you plant trees on grassland, it slows their growth a good bit (twice as long, I think). Yes, they will start turning the land into "wald" biome, but only a few tiles at a time. It takes a while for it to spread to make a good tree farm.
