Dead kins

I was wondering whether there was a way to know if a kin from your kins list is dead or they just stop logging on inconspicuously?

Yes, there is a way. if you find a corpse of the guy in question - he is dead.

Or ask him via out-of-game channels.

You can always check the hearth fire if you know where they were at. If you have them kinned, you can see the name above a lit hearth fire, and a dead character's hearth fire goes out.
