Or actually build one and use it to craft pottery with quality that matters. I think there's an error message now when you craft pottery without a wheel and it gets halved.

My understanding is that gardening pots are similar to tree pots. The source material is the biggest component (1/2) and the rest make up an equal part. With good soil, water, and pot, you can boost even poor quality items up pretty quick.

I don't know if they are exactly the same or not, but should give you an idea. I haven't done any testing yet myself as I've not gone out trying to source good quality materials.
