How do I deal with a Troll?

So, I'm a little hermit, finally built my mine hole down inside my base, was digging around to make a little palisade in my mine-hole area and a Troll spawned. Any suggestions on what I can do besides abandoning the mine hole? Seems like trolls don't despawn and when I went down with an alt to see if he was there, he aggroed, so I ran back up the stairs, and seems like he caused a cave-in near the stairs.

Anyway, I'm just hoping someone can give me a solution to salvage this mine hole, since I'd really like to have one inside my property and with the troll there it'll be impossible.
