Hitching post reset?

I was taming a goat and had him on a hitching post. He first got the 15 you get for hitching them up then I beat it up once and got +65. It got un-hitched from post so I took rope and re hitched it then today I went and beat it again and got +65 again. Which that should be more than 100 with taming so shouldn't it be a sheep by now? Also does re hitching the animal to the post reset the process?

it doesnt show how much it adds, it shows the total number it currently have
