Farming

Is there any way to tell quality of my crops?

And how do I raise crop quality?

I was searching for some updated info on farming, but had no luck finding any reliable source.

no way to tell right now, most efficient way would be rotating your crop plantation every 5 hours, so if you have all farming skills, you should plant 1/3 of your crop space, then wait 5 hours, plant another 1/3, and finally, do it again. Wait for the crop to mature, and take 1 sample of each third to see wich one is the higest quality. Harvest the crop with eh higest quality and use it to plant, while keeping the other 2/3 for your use. then plant 1/3 of the high quality seed every 5 hours and repeat

Quality of crop depends on quality of soil?

And is mulch of any good use?

if the quality of the soil is the same or higer than the quality of the crop, the quality can go from -2 to +5, if less it can go from -2 to +2.

Mulch is only used for tree farming

raising quality is a pain because it can go down each harvest, last world I use to inspect the 1st crop and insure it went up before planting my fields, you can no longer do that. Planting 1/3 or 1/2 of your crops every 5 hours like the previous poster said is prob the best way.

Or you can just ignore quality all together, which is what I have chosen to do =)

False, this has now changed as of http://www.havenandhearth.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=39&t=53382 (in Key Fixes section)

Soil quality now only effects the speed of crop growth to some extent

what this meant is that before this change, the soil had a different "quality" for each crop, wich was used to determine the quality randomnizer, so a a q 20 soils could have different range for say q 15 carrots and q15 beets. when this change was introduced it went back to w9 where quality of the soil affected all crops and not just the one one for for each crop
