Problems with trees

Good morning,
i was chopping a spruce tree of 40q. I had a 45q stone axe and i have 54 carpentry
when the tree was chopped down, the trunk was 24q!! Why?

Most likely it wasn't grown fully.

The tree was fully growth, that's really strange. Never happened to me. In the last world i growth to 105 q tree, i chopped down them with a 10 q axe, and the trunk was 105 q quality when chopped down. I dont know why now i cant

Some times they stunbt, causing there growth to be over with. Which means lower q then it should be.
