Close someone Village with palisades, trapping them inside

Postby Muffet » Thu Mar 16, 2017 4:59 am

So, i know that GMs and so on often break stuff used in exploits and griefing. And a friend i play with is not very comfy from getting out of a cave we have as a base since the start, and to make our village above ground, since he fears people can build walls around it and trap us in.

I have a feeling that this would be grieffing/exploit and not allowed, getting a divine intervention and having the GM's destroying the walls trapping people inside, since its very easy to wait for a small group to go sleep/rest and make layers and layers of walls closing them in, since when they wake up the palisades would be dried up [And that is taking consideration that they don't work, so they can wake up and go straight back to the game]

I think its the case of not being allowed since griefers and exploiters never did it to others, since i fail to find those situations in a thread.

SO, anyone knows if that is against the rules?

As far as I know it is not against the rules, since you can prevent it yourself (place claim covering your walls, guard your pali for first 3 ig days, seal corners, patrol walls to remove any walls that are not your own).
I don't think Jorb will intervene if you, say, fail to claim/seal your corners and got walled in.

Don't worry, it won't happen. No one cares enough about a small hermit base to troll them by blocking in with palisades. You are far more likely to just get killed when exploring.

I think I've seen a screen (from a previous world, not sure though) when someone actually did palisade somebody else on a worlds border. But it's not common. Mostly because it takes more effort to build a palisade than to break it from inside.

I think it was in world 8 but it got solved.
Some people builded houses next to palisade gated to trap people inside. xD

Griefing and exploits are part of the game.
Features.

at frist i was a cave hermit

after a while i learned about having 2 chars

now i sent my second char to have a far in the middle of a continent and at frist was purely cave too

but after a while a made a pali arround the farm outside and a pali inside

so even if they get inside the pali they wont advace too much

so i know the fear TRUST ME i know

but do it give a try and have a nice carrot farm

By the way, OP, what exactly makes you think you can't get walled in in a cave?

You're more likely to get walled into that cave than you are in a proper claim/village. The difference is that you can (hopefully) dig your way out of the cave. (Odds are you won't if you're not prepared.) You're more likely to be killed and get your keys stolen than you are to get properly walled in.

And to note, there are no GMs in this game, just the devs. They don't intervene in the world unless bugs are exploited (and even then that can be limited intervention, but can be pretty extreme... world 4 was wiped because of a botting exploit). If you want to deal with something, you need learn to deal with it yourself.

I wouldn't call it griefing if someone moves in next door and I use whatever tools I have to chase them off or keep them from being a bother to me. I'd call it protecting "my" property.

Exploits, on the other hand, are something of an enigma here. If they're properly reported as bugs, and they aren't fixed immediately, and they don't in general break the game, are usually ignored. They're a feature only during the time it takes to change or fix the system.
Opinions expressed in this statement are the authors alone and in no way reflect on the game development values of the actual developers.
