Different woods give different amounts of tar, pine trees give a lot more tar, also using boards produce less tar in a full kiln when compared to blocks.

that probably explains it i used juniper and maple woods that were right next to it next time i will use purely pine

Pine and fir are about the same, if not equal, at about 11L or so per load of 80 blocks.

(If you're looking to just make charcoal, beech is the wood of choice as it's most blocks per log).
