General Newbie question on Haven & Hearth

I had been going through the forums lately after I tried the game a few hours and I noticed people mentioning world 7, 8, 9, 10. I am not totally sure what this means. Is it like strategy games where they run for a few months and reset and you start from scratch?

The world thing refers to older maps that have been abandoned because of bugs, corruption or new mechanics that required new data structures...

On the front page of the wiki, there is a "What's New" section that shows when each recent world ended and the new world began. World 7 was the old Haven & Hearth (2D) and is still running for people with verified accounts although the population is extremely low.

When a new world begins, everyone starts fresh and the map is generated. World 9 was roughly a year long and World 8 was about 1.5 years. The current world began last January and is still relatively new.
