How to kill a mammoth?

So I've recently managed to kill two walruses at the same time, which means the only things I haven't killed yet are mammoths and trolls. I'm going to assume that mammoths are easier to kill compared to trolls.

How exactly do you kill a mammoth, though? Obviously they have a lot of health. Do I just run at it and start whittling it down? Can I kite it with a horse, or will it just dismount me? What combat stats would you recommend to kill a mammoth?

I've seen them killed via pinning them to a cliff with stockpiles and fighting them from below the cliff using a stockpile to block their ranged attack. It was in a location with water at the base so he couldn't block the ranged attack with a stockpile. At like 500+ stats/attributes he finished the fight with 1/3 of his HP left.

They hurt.

Damn, 500 stats! I'm nowhere near that, so I guess I'm killing walruses for a while. Also, how do trolls compared to mammoths?

Depends on the level of depth , also killing mammoths with even 200 stats is possibile , just that you need alot of armor , the ranged attack really can cause trouble , Trolls scale in power depending on depth , but lvl 1-3 pretty easy to take down with a few friends who have decent fighting stats like 200 ish , but lvl 4-5 will need a few stronger peeps
