How do I get rid of a stone deposit?

I've got a stone deposit right where I want to build my walls, and I can't seem to get rid of it. None of the landscaping options do anything and I can't survey the land either. Is there anything I can do to remove it or am I boned?
I was in the Northern Army once and you can never take that from me

Certain features in the terrain, like sand and water, are indestructible. If you can't pave it you're boned.
