Question about bee skeps.

If you place 2 bee skeps right next to each other, would it produce any more wax than having just one?

Depends on the amount of crops, IIRC. Ripping from Sevenless' guide, assuming that it wasn't changed:

"Each time a crop grows to the next stage, it checks if there's a beehive within range. If it finds beehive, the time before the next stage change is reduced, and the beehive receives a usage tick. Beehives can store up to 50 uses (and noting how jorb worded it, it's likely they start will a full 50 when first created), and will regenerate 6 uses per hour. Crops using a beehive will cause honey and wax production (exact mechanics unknown), but jorb has stated there is a low level of base production of honey/wax by a hive even if it has no crops nearby."

So if you have a lot of crops, you could probably produce a comparatively larger amount of wax if you used to skeps, yes.

It's still roughly accurate. Two hives per 100 tiles of fields seems to work well. (2 hives can stockpile ~3 stage changes per day for 100 tiles, I don't think carrots go any faster than 1/8hrs but you could toss a third on them if you'd like).

Which is odd because I had a medium area of carrots separated for quality control and I had 6 hives in total there, and that was a great source of wax for our village.

Farming was changed a while back to a variable speed modifier (instead of the quality fields). Could be you had a slight boost to carrot growth. If I recall right in the discussion, jorb said that crops like carrots wouldn't get much faster than current growth times (at the time of the patch), but could be significantly slower if you weren't on any part of a node.

And yeah, that section in Sevenless's guide is directly from the devs on the functionality of the skep. Not sure if they had pity on us after that big science experiment w7 (xcom, wasn't it? hate to attribute to wrong person), just thought it'd be impossible to science it out, or giving us a heads up about such a drastic change.

Well that's about the most obtuse mechanic I've heard of yet XD

Possible for a link? I've never heard of that.

The "Swan Fishing" update about 5 months ago: viewtopic.php?f=39&t=53382&p=707410&hilit=farm%2A+speed#p707410

At least this is my last understanding of any farming changes.
