Area farming

I keep seeing people talk about sowing large blocks of crops at once, but whenever I hold shift and right click it just plants the one instance of seeds. (Amber client if that matters)

Shift+right click the seeds in your inventory. That brings up a different looking cursor. Then hold left mouse button while you select the area to plant.

To note: click and drag the area to select it once you have the "mass plant" cursor. Same thing with harvest time, and it will only harvest the one plant type in case you select more than one plant type.
