Steel Crucibles, Fuel and Smelters?

Smelters you can cook the sauce all the way with garbage q fuel, let it die, then throw in a high q piece of fuel and finish her off with no penalty.

Can you do that with steel crucibles too, where the most recent fuel determines the quality? Or do I need my highest fuel at all times no questions?

I think that since you are constantly needing to refuel it you can't reset the q, so you would need to fuel it with good q all the way as to keep the good q.

Been too long since I've messed with steel production (hate setting alarms to log in and play), but used to be that fuel quality didn't matter, only the coal you used as the coking agent (the one you put in the inventory with the wrought).
Opinions expressed in this statement are the authors alone and in no way reflect on the game development values of the actual developers.

I vaguely remember testing steel quality, and I think that the wiki softcap formula is correct. That says that the average of the fuel, coal, and crucible together softcaps the quality.

The quality of steel is directly equal to quality of the wrought iron used, softcapped by following:

qCrucible+ qCharcoal+q AvgFuel /3

Because of steel progress resetting when it runs out of fuel once you cannot do fuel shenannigans here with one piece hq or things like that.

IIRC only the last 12 hours of fuel matters. But this world Jorb did the formulas(?) and messed them up day 1, so who knows :)
