Fighting over Localized Resources

Had a nice clay pit next to by base. Decided it was prudent to build a palisade around it and lock the thing in, like I've been seeing elsewhere.

When I come back to harvest it, however, the key doesn't work in the door anymore.

I'm assuming that, during the ONE day I took off to go away for a weekend, someone came in, wrecking-ball'd the gate, built a new gate, and re-keyed the new door.

(This same person, after missing the clay pit for a week, comes back the ONE day I put a wrecking ball in place to return the favor.)

Assuming I'm going about this the right way, I basically have no choice but to spam wrecking balls, right? There isn't something obvious I'm missing about being able to just re-key a door with a new lock or some other bizarre loophole I'm missing here?

If it's unclaimed, plant 2 catapults, gather your squad of fighters, camp the catapults for 2 hours, bash down the gates and make your own gates. If they respond with more fighters, well, you lost the resource.

If it's right next to your base then probably best to put a v claim over it before anything else then sort out the bashing of walls after as it then becomes much easier for you and much harder for them and yah use catapults not wrecking balls.
