Remove liftables from boats?

I put a crate into my boat and I can't get it back out.

It shows up as a grey covered area either in the fore or aft part of the boat depending on whether there are one or two items in it. To get it out you have to right click on the grey area, you can do it when the boat is either in or out of the water, but when it is out of the water you need to rotate your screen so that you can see inside the baot.
