So according to the forum you send me, combat system is total crap? I got further in the game now with leather armor.
A bat chased me today and for some reason my char doesnt want to draw his axe and keep punching with his fist.
I saw him getting +7 in green number, while he keep dmging me +1.
And where is the hp bar of the enemy? I have no idea what im doing while in combat.

Best write-up anyone has done so far. It could use some screenshots and diagrams. It's been a while, but it is a pretty decent description.

I'll note devs like the players to be in the dark about things like how much damage they've done to a target as well as other parts of the game. Are you really going to know that that bear is half dead or if you've barely scratched it despite how many times you've gotten hits on it with a sword? Amber and some of the custom clients eliminate some of this mystery. It's up to you if you want to use one. Most people suggest it. See the Wizard's Tower if you want to download one.
Opinions expressed in this statement are the authors alone and in no way reflect on the game development values of the actual developers.

red numbers are soft hit points
yellow numbers are hard hit points
green numbers is armor soak (damage to your armor)

soft hit points (shp) cannot exceed hard hit points (hhp). armor has wear/durability/life, hover your mouse over your armor to see. should note something like 0/70 on a new piece of armor, thats the wear/durability

your character will not use the axe/weapon unless it is a weapon skill. you probably only have punch/left hook as attacks
green, blue, yellow, and red are the colors associated with attacks, an attack can have multiple attack colors
punch uses 'green' which at the start of the battle, the bat will have 0% green. every punch you do will add 'weight of attack (unarm or melee) vs there defense' * 'attack opening' *(100%-his current opening). so lets say you have the same combat power as a bat which is around 15-25, not sure what exactly. so you start with punch first move, your damage for punch is 10 * his opening (strength increases damage btw) so his opening is 0% so you do 0 damage. his opening is now 15%, second punch: 28%, third punch: 38% and damage is calculated before you add the opening on

multi color stuff can do more damage at lower openings but take multiple colors

i recommend to get some unarm combat or a sword for melee combat, which unarmed combat is better for low levels. focus on doing damage while keeping your openings below 40%, don't need to keep them down under 20% because your armor should protect you and you should be focusing on killing unless it's something much stronger
