How does fishing up trash work?

Let's say you drop an arrow in a river. Will you only be able to fish it out somewhere near where you dropped it, or will it get washed down by the current and get fished up far away?

I'm pretty sure that the chances of fishing it up are the same anywhere on the map.

It gets added to a global "pool" of trash. Each time you fish, you have a chance to get a fish and a separate chance to get trash. So you don't have to get all salty about fishing up 5 dirt in a row

Anecdotally, having done a lot of fishing, I tend to fish things up immediately after I drop them, and repeatedly if I continue to drop them. That might speak to a very small pool of dropped items at any given time, rather than it drawing from a local pool though.

Change in quantity of fished trash from fishing credo? That combined with the fishing magic probably allows collection of absurd amounts of trash.

Probably have to get a dev confirmation on this, but my understanding is that it stays until snagged, either by fishing or as beach trash.
