Taming inquiries

Postby BetrayalAtK » Mon Oct 30, 2017 3:57 pm

Been taming since legacy, i always play alone, now ever since the combat rework i have been having a real hard time killing anything and never tried taming, until now.

I have 100 UC and 32 str which i thought it was enough to tame anything by just boat brawling, i used to tame with much less before, but now i have to struggle a bit with reducing openings and punches. I can kill anything just fine now, but taming never works, i end up killing the animal, is it because i used to much defensive moves? am i only allowed to use punches now? is it because i take to long? like 15 minutes or more? is it because of the boat brawling technique that messes up the process? Like i said before i have been taming since forever, but has something fundamental changed?.

I already burned trough 5 animals already and i dont want to keep wasting time.

Animal must be able to path to you for taming to work properly, so boat tricks are a no go. But with 100UA you should easily beat any tamable animal in a fair fight.

I think the "trick" to it now is getting the proper combat deck. It's basically building up IP while kiting the animal around to sideswipe twice and the chop or cleave with a weapon that isn't going to kill the animal. You can punch it into submission, too, but that takes longer and you take more armor damage while doing so. (If I have the wrong combo there, please correct me. I'm trying to pull what I recall from a video I think ozzy did several months ago.)

Nah, you just need Uppercut and Sideswipe for taming.

Dammit. Just dammit. Well guess ill build some armor and face them head on, yeah you would think 100 UA is ok but its still a pain building up an opening, i guess that boars and mouflons should be doable, but smarter animals like horses and auroch i dont think i can do it with my current attribute values. Since they always try to def and keep their openings below 40%. I mean boat brawling a horse it still takes me like 10 minutes or more to punch it to submission, but of course it dies instead of calming down because of what you said.

Yeah sure, i mean i would just face them head on with a weapon, but theres is no way im getting metals anytime soon. I mean in older worlds i tamed first so i could get all the benefits and food from it to boost my way to 60+ stats so i could start trying to mine with a stone axe. Man these recent changes surely screw up loners and hobos like me. Its just to hard to do anything on your own, unless you invest ridiculous amounts of time ingame.

I'd go with mouflon and horses first (unless you got a horse from another way)

Yeah, armor is pretty mandatory. And you do need a weapon to do it fast enough to avoid taking too much damage. Just go around and explore caves, if you look for signs of mining on the CtrlA map you should easily find ore. Bronze sword shouldn't take more than a day or two to acquire this way (if you have coal ready).

You can also cheese them with palisade gates: aggro, close gate, peace it, build IP through the closed gate... then open the gate (so it can path to you) and beat it into submission.

Be sure to set your aggression to passive. In the top right next to the animals' profile click the two swords

This will automatically disengage combat when the animal flees
