Whats the process to claim an abandoned base?

I was thinking of claimining an abandoned base, I was wondering whats the best way to change the locks on the gates?

If there's no master key, you'll have to use a wrecking ball on each individual gate and replace it.

Bash the gates, build new ones.

Unless you find master key(s), then you can apply a new lock onto the gate(s).

is there a way to close up a mineshaft that they've made in the base? or just build palisades in the lower floors

you could put a palisade on the entrance to the mineshaft, or just destroy it.
