Fast Bees Wax Production

Postby Kiritosis » Wed Jan 17, 2018 3:23 am

What is the most efficient placing of the bee skeps for fast production of bees wax? For example 4 bee skeps in the 4 corners in a square crop field, one bee skep in a circle crop field. Thank you for the help :D

Depends what you mean by 'efficient' - If you plant carrots throughout the radius of one bee skep then the bee skep will use around half of them to make honey and wax, so you lose some of the potential of the field but utilise the maximum potential of the bee skep. If you surround your fields with dozens of bee skeps then you will utilise the maximum potential of the crops but not of the bee skeps. Bee skeps are relatively cheap to make so if you are just trying to make low quality wax then the latter option is better, particularly as bee skeps make a small amount of wax even without interacting with crops. If you want high quality wax the former option is better as quality will gradually increase towards the crop quality softcapped by the bee skep quality only if it is continuosly interacting with crops.

Sorry what I meant was what is the position of the skeps that is the FASTEST in terms of producing wax irregardless of the wax's quality. Thank you for the reply :)

Should just be maximizing the number of crops the skep has access to. If you have a given tile of crop in multiple skeps' radii, it's only gonna trigger one skep at a growth cycle.

For one skep the middle of the field, though you don't need a whole field to maximise the production of one skep, believe it is around 100-120 crops, I don't know if anyone has ever verified the exact amount as the mechanic is very complicated to work out.

It's very dependent on the types of crops and growth times. A skep generates 6 "pollination" charges an hour with a cap of 50. If you don't use those charges, new ones are wasted. There's really a lot of planning and strategy into optimizing your skeps for wax production.

As the wiki says "Each time a crop grows to the next stage, it checks if there's a beehive within range. If it finds beehive, the time before the next stage change is reduced, and the beehive receives a usage tick. Beehives can store up to 50 uses (and noting how jorb worded it, it's likely they start will a full 50 when first created), and will regenerate 6 uses per hour. Crops using a beehive will cause honey and wax production (exact mechanics unknown), but jorb has stated there is a low level of base production of honey/wax by a hive even if it has no crops nearby." -Sevenless

So, if you want to maximize WAX PER REAL LIFE TIME you should build as many beehives that you can. But if you want to maximize a Beehive production, you should aim for always use your beehive ticks before they are full again.
