how do you tame a horse and what stats ?

Hello,

I would like to tame a horse but I'm scared I'm not powerful enough... (I have like 25 unarmed combat, 15 const, 15 agi..)
What stats do you need and/or move to tame a horse ? Or is there any tips on how to tame it regardless of your stat ?

And what am I mising on taming a horse :
You need to give clover to a wild horse, then bring it back to the pole thing with a rope, wait x hours before it enters combat stance, fight it (click on the icon top right once before damaging it), and do it until he's tamed at 100% (if he's not, then..?)

You’re going to have to cheese it using a boat, you can tame anything that way regardless of stats. Horses attack very fast. Even with 200 ua I still take some damage from going toe to toe. So don’t feel bad.

You can cheat by aggroing it through a gate (palisade, dried) and then close it to build IP securely, after that open the gate and start your attack.
Having a house you can flee into nearby should things go south helps, as does having a sword and purely using sideswipe.

Initaially leashing it to the hitching post gives 10% tameness and every complete taming cycle another 25% (iirc), so you'll have to beat it 4 times.

Don't forget to leash it after completing combat.

No. You lead it to water, hop into your boat, head to deep water and then aggro it.
Move it to attack, move back to deep water (out of reach of the horse) to close your opening.

Note: This might lead to the taming getting broken, my suspicion is the devs added something that shouldn't the animal be able to hit you it'll glitch. This is at least true if you try to tame through closed gates these days, used to work but dosn't anymore - wouldn't surprise me if the same goes for using a boat.

How much you need in stats really depends on what combat actions and gear you have available. The right ones, and you complete the round of taming in about 10-12 moves at most, soit's not really enough time to take many hits. Good armor, and the hits won't penetrate the armor much, if at all. I'd have to dig up an bit of an older video, but it's something like build 6 or 8 initiative, sideswipe a couple times, and then chop or cleave with a low Q weapon (or something like that... whatever attack has same color as sideswipe, red iirc). Just make sure you don't do enough damage to kill the animal in one hit.

Cheesing it from a boat: I personally aggro the horse, then run my ass off to the waters edge where I have a boat waiting. Usually take 2 swings from the horse in the process, armor and quick restore moves while spam clicking move helps keep anything from penning and damaging you. Peace the horse in the top right corner of your screen once you paddle into deep water where the horse can’t hit you and before throwing any attacks of course. And even if you only have punch, it should be a matter of patience. Just punch it, keeping in mind that the more openings the horse has the more damage obviously it will receive, possibly killing it when it’s close to submitting to your indomitable will. So make sure if it’s close to submitting/dying , let it’s openings drop a little so you do a little less damage per punch.

I must have accidentally killed 20+ animals on their last taming cycle... so patience really is key. It’s so worth the anger and frustration though!

Agreed that's why I want the horse asap, it is so useful... and having just a wild one is not really effective. Sorry for all the questions but I'm so scared of death in this game.

Right now I have :
-leather armor protections
-bronze sword
-can use chop/low blow and watch its move for ip
-30 melee combat
-30agi
-22 consti
-28 str.

You say with an armor it won't penetrate much but what kind of armor/stuff are you talking about ?
What do you mean by "armor and restore moves" ?
And even if I attack it from water, I don't really get it, he will hit me when I come closer to hit him no ? The only thing I understand is that I can lower his opening to 0 easily between each trade but it will be the same for him too no ?
I guess the best would be to test it myself but you know...death is scary in this game

As long as you're full health when starting the taming combat you won't die (worst case should you fail miserably: get knocked out and have to cure some wounds and concussion).

Unless you're running around at less than 1/2 max HHP, you're probably not going to die to animals (you'd have to really try to do so). The bigger issue is the pain in the butt that some of the wounds are to heal and concussions to your early progression.
