Framerate caps

Postby Salad » Thu Mar 01, 2018 2:15 pm

I would like to know how to uncap the frame rate when the game window is in the background, since i'm wanting to stream the game and I've only got a single monitor ( I don't want anyone to have to deal with the game dropping to 10fps every time I check the chat.). I'm currently using Amber's client, but i'm not sure if I could change the launch config to fix this problem, or exactly HOW i'd change it if it was possible.

Anyone mind giving me a few pointers? Or at least telling me i'm fucked. Thanks guys.

Use the console command :bghz and give a framerate argument -- :bghz 5 is the default. Setting it to anything above your monitor's refresh rate will cap it to that instead.

Can you consider, maybe after the render optimizations, to set this at least to 30 by default? I mean it's people willing to run 10 alts that should care to change that value everytime not people that just play the game with 1 char .. if you get what I mean.

Not sure why, I have to say. I myself like being able to have the client logged on in the background, without it using significant system resources. Under what circumstances do you consider it a problem?

Yeah that's true ... to me it's just annoying when I'm doing some maintenance on my claim and at the same time multitasking, game start to run at 5 fps everytime it's not on top .. you know, it's a bit weird .... I personally type always :bghz 60 in those cases, but I can see that low spec pc benefit from this, so yeah probably is better like it is, not sure. (maybe cause you are on Linux, on windows these days there are multiple ways to peak at a window even if not on top, idk about Linux)
Maybe you should also let people know about those options, add a :help that shows in the system chat the more relevant console commands avaible, and give a hint about this :help somewhere, in the options or at the start of the game in the system chat.
