Animal taming issues?

So I've fed a clover to an Auroch that had wandered into my camp, and I right-clicked a rope onto it. But after I got it to the hitching post and clicked the rope to the post, I get a message saying "your leash broke" - as well as "tethered". There's no number above the Auroch, but the bovine is also acting as if it is tethered, and standing in place. I've retried by re-leashing and re-tethering, but after 30 tries there is no change. What am I doing wrong here? I haven't been able to find any other post about this problem :S


Edit: tried it on a passing horse, and it had the same issue. I'll leave it "tethered" in case it still works.

From what I can tell you did everything fine. "Your leash broke" is unfortunately the message that was chosen when the animal is actually unleashed.

Aw, hecky. Wish I kept that bovine tethered. C'est la vie, I suppose.
