Either works. Burning bones works, too. It really depends on the amount you want and the time you want to spend making if you want to bother with burning up branches.

If you want quality, I'd go with bones or bread, whichever is better. If you have high quality trees and a higher quality tool, you might be able to split blocks for better branches than your bread or bones lying around.
