Hello, fellow player! :)

Could you maybe give us a bit more detail about where you're having trouble?

For starters, you click the "play" button in the header image on the website. If that isn't working, maybe we can walk you through the next step.

Step 1: Download and install the latest release version of Java. You can find it at www.java.com. (Note: it might be better if you get the 64-bit version as most browsers are still only 32-bit and that's the version you get from the auto-detection. Find at https://www.java.com/en/download/manual.jsp). Be sure to restart your browser after installing Java.

Step 2: Click the play button. This will download a small file called "autohaven.jnlp" which should automatically open using the Java software you just installed (if you clicked 'run,' else it will be saved to where you put it, and you should be able to double click to open).

If you have other issues, please post any errors you get or describe the issue in detail. Please let us know the version of Java you installed, the operating system you're running and version number, and we may need other information for troubleshooting.

If you're going for default client and had accidently downloaded (not opened) autohaven.jnlp you may right click the file and choose "Open with Java Web Start" from dropdown menue

Custom clients (from Wizards Tower thread) normally got a run.bat (Windows) which you open by doubleclicking - it doesn't need Java in Browser enabled (which might be a security risk) but anyways need an installed Java 8 (url for direct DL thread in Signature)

I'm not quite sure what you mean to ask by "best way to play", but, in general, imho:

Your own way. It is a "sandbox" game, you can make it anything. What others have made before you can be an inspiration and a tribute to some of what can be created here, but never let it limit you or make you think it's necessary to play like some other player.
