Some kind of fire fairy thing?

On two separate occasions I've seen this red ember like fairy (resembles a firefly) come floating out from something burning. The first time was from a firepit (or kiln? not quite sure) and the second time was from an ore smelter. I haven't been able to catch one, and I can't seem find anything on the wikis about this because I don't really know what to call it when I'm searching.
Is it an everglowing ember? I assume it's some sort of curio. I was just interested in seeing how much value I'm missing out on since my dumbass can't seem to catch the buggers.
