Fishing Nets - Do they float?

Title - if you toss out a fishing net as an item instead of selecting "place net", will it be placed? Or will it just act as a normal item and sink, never to be found again?

Mostly asking because I have limited inventory space and the amount of fish it brings up means I have to do a lot of fiddling just to get it back in my inventory. I'd rather ask here than potentially waste a fishing net testing it myself

I must be completly stupid, but how can you all manage to put down the fishing net again after you picked it up. If i get 3 fishes i cant put my net back again and then i cant place it again . I have wasted 4 net atm and i really geting tired og making new nets

Ctrl+clicking will allow you to move even with items on the cursor, so you don't have to lose it if you're having inventory issues.

I always just throw them out like a normal item, in deep water it will re-plant itself if you just throw it out your inventory, in shallow water I don't know how it works.

Jorb did say you can just drop them or place them exactly with right click. I've not messed with them, so I won't comment farther. Maybe someone is willing to do a bit of science for us to find out for sure?

I did see an identical question come up in the last day or so. I'm merging the two threads together.
