Still having trouble opening game

Postby keroba » Mon May 07, 2018 2:41 am

I have registered, Installed Java 8.0, checked to make sure it is 64 bit not 32, tried hitting play button and all I get is Autohaven-wordpad. I am sorry for being a newbie lost in this mess but can someone tell me what I need to do ?
I have Windows 8.1, Intel (R) Pentium (R) CPU N3530@2.16 Ghz processor if that is needed

You have to open you HH file with JAVA, not the wordpad, you can try and restart your pc and it should fix it or you can right click on HH and chose open with..java.

Specifically, you need to open this file with Java Web Start (javaws.exe found in the location you installed Java in). You may need to go into the Java settings, Security tab, and check the box labeled "enable Java content for browser and Web Start applications." If this isn't enabled, then Java won't launch the file properly.

As a tip for the future: you can show the file extensions if they're hidden. Sometimes searching the web for how to launch files of that type will get you the answer in short order. We're also a small community. Sometimes it takes a bit of time to get an answer to questions. Have a bit of patience.

thank you all for the help! magicman I am sorry for seeming impatient. I have been trying to get the game open since 9 am. It's now almost 2 am and I am just getting close. So please forgive me. I am currently getting a message stating an error with user. looking into it. But thanks again everyone. Its nice to know the community is out there willing to help :)

Hint: posting the actual error message gives a chance to get advice how to fix it.

Open up Java Control Panel -> Security Tab - at the bottom there's an exception list - put in

Code: Select all

also set Security to High

at least post an uploaded screenshot of error message pls

This shoudln't be needed anymore, borka, even on the highest security settings. There's a cert for the game Java recognizes. Of course, this is independent of 3rd party security software which may or may not have an issue, but sounds like it is Java itself here not working correctly.

I understand the exceptions are still necessary for Legacy, though.
