Taming Troubleshooting

Postby abysmalapathy » Sun May 13, 2018 9:26 pm

Ok so I read quite a bit about taming on the wiki, and I thought I was ready to tame, but I can't seem to get it to work. I feed the animal a clover, tether it to a hitching post and fight it (immediately pressing the peace button at the top), but then it flees after a while, seemingly breaking the tether? Do you have to make sure it doesn't get any openings on you before you press the peace button? Do you re-engage it after it flees? I've tried re-engaging before and pressing the peace button but I always end up killing it, even with just punches. I've tried aurochsen and mouflon but they all die before I see the taming progress numbers.

What am I doing wrong? Any tips?

Thanks ^.^

After tethering the animal you have to wait for it to enter a "ready" stance before attacking it. This takes many hours. After you do enough damage for it to flee while you are on peace mode you then have to tether it and wait for it to be ready again. Repeat the process until the yellow number that comes out of them each time reaches 100.

There is also a known bug with wild animals hitched to a post. If the animal is in one map section and the hitching post is in another, the animal will get disconnected from the post and despawn when it the section it is in unloads. Make sure your posts are far enough in from a section border so that they don't cross it.

I believe the range on a post is about 9-11 tiles from center. Map sections are 100x100 tiles. While not easy to see the section borders on the mini-map, you can see them in your world atlas.

Make sure you move your posts in far enough from the edges to be safe, or set up fences so that animals can't wander past the map lines.

(Note: I'm not aware of this being fixed yet. I may have forgotten a patch note or not spotted it in a fast search.)

101x101, not relevant in this case, but helpful in some other.
