New Players. Please give us some tips

Postby aelesfer » Thu May 31, 2018 1:54 pm

Hi!.
I have played HnH loooong time ago, and now Im back with some friends. We will start as a group today, and so I have some questions to make the start the most enjoyable possible for my friends:

- What's the current method to spawn together?
- I suppose there's a lot of threaths since the world started long ago. What should I have in mind to choose our starting village spot?
- There's any change in vandalism mechanics?
- Is palibashing possible now? Shall we rush Pallisade or directly brickwall?
- Any other tip you can give us, feel free to tell

Thanks in advance!

1. One of you needs to spawn first and make a Wilderness Beacon. You type a "password" into it and once you do the beacon lights up. Then your friends can type the password when clicking on the deer skull in the character creation area. You'll have to make a beacon for each of your friends.

2. There's realms now, which is sort of like a giant area that gives you buffs for being under them. You can settle in them with no problem and I'd probably settle in Hedgehugs realm since they're pretty friendly. I'd probably avoid Dis.

3. Don't know much since I don't do much vandalism.

4. Nope. You need to set a wrecking ball, battering ram, or a catapult to break walls. No bashing them by hand unless they were built within 24 hours. Claim shields were implemented and you have to deplete those first before you can bash a claim's walls. It takes 20 hours from what I know to completely deplete a claim shield, and you have to bash the claim every hour for that. Sieges rarely happen unless the attacking party is really dead set on wrecking the other.

Build claim inside cave and hide there until you have materials for palisade. Once it dries you're quite safe from anybody who isn't ready to spend lot of time to siege you down.

Hiding in a cave isn't 100% mandatory if you put your claim somewhere that's not too close to active settlements or routes that people hunting/foraging take, but I'd recommend it as I never check caves I pass by and assume this is common practice due to how rare Glimmermoss is these days.

Ty for the replies.
One of my biggest doubts its to camp in a cave, close to a river, or in the middle of a big terrain. The way I see it, there's nowere safe in the surface, since there's village everywere. The only 'safe' option in the surface I find is to settle into a mountain, but I'm afraid that will make things too hard for my noob friends to learn.

What would you do in my situation???

Build far enough from river that your village isn't seen by people boating by, build one way trail to the river. Trails can be used while carrying a rowboat.

Building away from the river also decreases the chances that somebody comes to check out your place, even if they could see it on the map.

No one really travels by boat anymore, it's all about horses.

Just rush a palisade, and your place will be fine once you get it.
