In case you're talking about a fresh stake claim: it has a cooldown of 8 RL hours before it activates.

IIRC you need to also visit the claim (presumably go close enough for the pole to render or stand on the claimed area) after the eight hours are done. This is to prevent fire-and-forget claims for trolling/hogging good spots.

EDIT: the claim will gain points when curios in your study screen finish, as long as you have bond in your study window. You can also fill it manually but this will cost LP.

This was added about a year, year and a half ago. We all agree it's a bullshit mechanic, but that's to prevent even bigger bullshit piles from happening as Granger points out. Now that everyone can make more than one claim, it's too easy to spam them everywhere.

But, TBH, 8 hours isn't nearly enough to prevent the claim spam (should be 24 hours as it's not enough time for people to log in to take out the troll claims), and too long for legitimate use of claims (shouldn't have a cooldown at all).

Maybe if this were the start of the world, but most of the asshats have quit playing, and people are scattered enough to not run into anyone. (Just to note, the spawn mechanics changed this world, too, so you're not necessarily going to be at the center regions of the map.)
