Fire Sprites?

Now and again my catgold sparks and/or my smelter, will throw a red looking flame that lingers and drifts around. It hasn't set anything ablaze yet, so I'm no longer panicking when I see one. But the way it moves reminds me of the opium dragons. It doesn't linger long enough to even fully register that it's there before it's gone again, but are those things catchable? If so, what are they and how does one catch one, since they come out of buildings in your (presumably pretty crowded) base and ignore walls and collidable objects?

How the hell do you catch one, when they go sailing off through walls and buildings faster than you can run?
