Current state of defence

Postby yozzik111 » Tue Oct 16, 2018 7:01 pm

Hello fellow hearthlings. It's been a long time since i've built my last base and question of defences were out of my sight.
Considering territory is under personal and village claims, what walls are needed for basic defence?
Fences are irrelevant, they are weak and can be (?) broken by aggroed animals.
Palisades are cheap and can be built up in no time, brickwalls are pretty expensive for a single player. On the other hand, i understand the difference in their soak.
On the third hand, heh, we have two shields covering the wall. And then, in case of the siege, there is no real difference between walls if shields are broken with catapults.
In case of decay (base is abandoned), again, there is no difference between walls.

So, correct me if i am wrong, but there is no point in brickwalls if you are not expecting sieges and won't be able to actively defend your base.
Also, aesthetic base defences thread.

Currently palisade with a claim is enough, pretty much no one builds brickwalls.
If you build a brickwall, you should only do it for cosmetic reasons. It's really not necessary defense-wise.

Sieging takes a lot of time and effort, so only a few people do it.

Good way to defend is also location, try not to be close to some big scary villages or busy rivers. (though these days most people just use horses)
Try not to show that you are rich. (No golden paving or stockpiles of metal visible from outside of the walls)

Actually a good way is to build two walls, first one further back, so no one can see what objects you have inside the village, and then second one closer to the village. This way the raider can only guess if it is worth it to siege you.

Or in short: try to make yourself an un-interesting target for raiding, and build a few walls and claims to make it more time consuming.

Hey Shubla. Absolutely agree with you on the location. Thanks for your input.

From what i've seen in years playing this game is that all cities fall not under the siege, but under the time: there were massive bases behind these walls, and then, after a year it is just abandoned.
