Is it possible to kill ants with ranged weapons?

Postby Otsu » Wed Nov 14, 2018 4:12 am

So I have a quest to kill an army of ants for the hunting credo. I can't seem to do it with my punches, and I used an inventory full of rocks with a sling - missing every single one and an inventory full of arrows doing the same. Is it possible to do it with range? Do I just need to level my marksmanship?

i'm sure it could be done with a ranged weapon but you're really better off just leveling unarmed combat to like 15 and spamming punch

Is Unarmed combat good to level up or would it be a waste?

unarmed combat is super important to level up, also you should do what you can to increase strength and agility

I'm just curious, but why? Do you punch and kick things often? I thought melee combat and marksmanship would be more valuable.

A lot of the important actions are based on unarmed. As you progress, you'll run into more important maneuvers such as "oak stance," "combat meditation," and others that need solid unarmed skill. And yes, early on you do a lot of punching and kicking of things in a fight because you need to learn how to cleave and sideswipe and such "from practice" vs different animals. You can do pure melee combat, but it's not recommended. I'm not sure what is considered the ideal balance between the two are.

Also, marksmanship should probably be avoided with the current rules, but since you're new and not familiar with the systems, it might be easier to take the penalties from using ranged weapons rather than trying to fight whatever you're after.

Yay! Good for you on killing those ants. And yeah, I was under the impression melee combat skill was the way to go as well. But, the unarmed skill is pretty much the go to for getting openings on creatures. A simple combo that doesn't require any IP skills is: Uppercut + Sideswipe. From what I gather, the sideswipe damage is based off the weapons base damage, your strength, and your melee combat skill. So it's not a bad Idea to have at least some melee combat skill. I might be wrong though, I'm just a farmer who picks up tips and tricks from passerbys
