How to get away from people?

So, I've spawned in the south side of the map.
Joined a couple of days late, and my friends refuse to join me. So, I'm on my own, and there's a couple of more established groups around me. Whilst not directly hostile, they're certainly unfriendly, and resort mostly to minor griefing than outright stealing or attacking.

However, I imagine once I've built up to the point of actually having something worth stealing, or being killed over, that will happen.

Now, admittedly, it's my fault for settling close to them, and I don't intend to stick around, however, the south island is pretty well explored, judging from the world map, and there's groups of people dotted around with quite some frequency. And I'm nowhere near being able to cross the ocean.

What's my best option for slicing out a piece of silence whilst I learn the game again? I haven't played since world 3, so, I'm not looking for some premium spot or anything.

ur best bet is to either restart and hope for a better start or move 2 the edge of the map i find their r fewer and fewer people the closer 2 the edge of the map i go

Study the map. Shape of water body is fairly distinct.

If you are using Amber's client (prob others too bit idk) you can click on the location symbol on top of your minimap. If your area has been mapped, you'll see your coordinates, and if you click it it'll open the oddity map on your precise location !
