How do I prospect?

I ran throughout this whole mountain side using rustroot extract, albeit not the highest ql, and didn't get a single arrow indication of an ore node. What are the chances of there not being a single on within a few hundred-a thousand tiles around me?

I think that's the culprit. I can tell only about once continent, though. I was looking for chalc ore to complement the tin and spend a few days prospecting like crazy for it. I think I covered next to 1/3 of the whole continent with my attempts. And in my experience rustroot extract up to q30 shows you nothing sometimes. Closer to q40 it seems to be reaching far enough to almost always give you a hint.
