so I discovered tar (most probably, because when i try to teach it my character it says that it is already discovered, but maybe that's where's the bug) and brach, and I also have the boat building skill but I cannot craft tar sticks - should I do something else too or is it just a bug?

If you can build rowboats, you have indeed discovered tar.

The wiki is not clear on what is needed to discover tarsticks. Let's see if we can whittle it down.

Are you missing any of the following technologies:

or Yeomanry?

My own personal suspicion is that you need wheelwrighting, but that's just a shot in the dark. I don't know for sure.

yes I have every of the following skills, many of them don't have anything in common with tarsticks anyway, but I will only say that I did not pick tar up directly from the tark kiln
I found it in a barrel next to some ruins, I picked up some with a bucket but it didn't cause the discovery sound and lp gain, but when I tried to teach tar with my other character, it said that I already discovered it or something like this

Tar is not part of building material for this boat, I think maybe you can build it without discover tar.

I think you must pick it from kiln directly to get discovery.

As of W11 discovering tar is a prerequisite for building a rowboat.
