Gilding Failure question

Postby neoblackheart1 » Fri Feb 15, 2019 12:06 am

So my friend and I are having a small argument on what that means. I have never seen a gild fail period. I am under the impression that having a gilding fail means you don't get a new slot.

He is under the impression that if you fail a gilding you get nothing out of it.

Namely we were looking at the Tailoring Credo and its final level "The first gilding of a new artifact is always successful." I think this means you will always get a second gilding slot he thinks it means that you will never fail at putting a gilding on the item.

Give him 10 blocks and 5 taproots. Tell him to make 5 clogs and 5 taproot lacings. If all of those "succeed" at the 2-3 % chance they'll have each, the mathematical absurdity should hopefully convince your friend that a success opens up a new slot.

More or less everyone agrees the wording on this mechanic is confusing as hell.

The wiki explains the process precisely, including the math to determine the chance. http://ringofbrodgar.com/wiki/Gilding

Seconding that, yes, "success" means another open slot for another gilding. The credo bonus is indeed a guarantee that all your gear will hold 2 gilds at least.

That's correct.
