Best Mines Support Coverage

Postby jacksonblu » Fri Feb 15, 2019 7:07 pm

When I mined last world, I placed all of my mine supports in a grid pattern, so that each mine support would be within the range of a couple other supports, like so:

The problem with this placement of supports is that there is going to be a lot of unnecessary overlap of mine support coverage. My question is "What is the best way to completely cover an area with the least amount of mine supports?" Mines supports should only be placed within the range of an existing mine support to prevent cave-ins

Edit: guess this should go in How do I? Can a mod move this thread?

I’d post my mine support coverage method from last world but it’ll take some time.

For now I’ll just say that with the current state of supports, overlap isn’t exactly a bad thing

Most optimal pattern is found in nature

but you'd have to get lucky or just remove supports after you are done, to be able to place them optimally

Yes, but having to remove supports to place them "optimally" is counterproductive to my goal, which is spending the least amount of resources on mine supports

for stone columns i used a certain pattern for mining large areas.
S<-10 tiles-> S<-10 tiles->S<-10 tiles->S<-10 tiles->S
then id pick a side and go down to have a L shape then every odd support go down doing my pattern so that way i did have to spend much to support a large area and freed space up. i have a picture of a goat setup i built in my mine but yea closest picture of how to do mine supports.
