Food Ingredients and FEP

Postby Mr_Bober » Sat Feb 16, 2019 8:48 am

Is there a way to know in advance the FEP values (or at least which base attributes it involves) of a recipe that can be cooked with different ingredients?

For example, the Autumn Steak has a "baseline" of Per+2 (2), Per+1 (3), Con+1 (4). It can be cooked with any kind of meat, any kind of mushroom and any kind of greens.

At first I assumed the FEP of the specific ingredients would matter, but it doesn't seem to be the case.
I've tried using the same green and same meat but different mushroom 3 times:
- Chanterelles (which alone give Dex) turned out to give Agility;
- Yellowfeet (Int+Str) turned out to give Strength;
- Parasol (Str) turned out to give Dexterity;

So how am I supposed to choose ingredients? Is there a tool or something I can use to see what combo I should use to get the results I want?

We know there's a math trick to it, but I don't think anyone has put the effort forth to figure it out.

instead, one of our members has put a lot of effort into collecting ingredients and information and putting together a cookbook. viewtopic.php?f=49&t=61405

Warning: A lot of information for food was updated with world 11. The cookbook's numbers may be off.

I'm actually trying to figure this out myself, resulting in a big headache so far.

Not a cat's cookbook is nice, but when you consider Authumn Steak has a total of 20,250 ingredient possibilities, it seems absurd trying to cook every single item.

From a small talk with jorb in pms (very small) I know the results indeed follow an algorithm and aren't simply hardcoded, and each ingredients adds on top the base values.

There is often a pattern to what each ingredient adds. Bear mostly adds str for example (there are notable exceptions where things will surprise you for sure, I've had a massive +con from bear in one recipe). Bigger tougher animals tend to have +2 feps instead of +1s. In many cases meat is too difficult to acquire to be worth caring about (magpie meat, mole meat, etc).

It narrows down the reasonable options to something a lot more sane.
