Option 1) Go into a cave, mine the wall every 10 tiles or so, prepare to sprint away if it caves in.

Option 2) Wait until you find rustroot exploration/perception wise, learn how to rustroot prospect via a guide, match up locations between overworld map and underworld map, mine ore.

The problem with option 1 is that a lot of L1 veins seem to be quite thin this world. That makes it harder to hit metal via randomly hitting walls. The problem with 2 is that many people find the prospecting minigame confusing and difficult.

Could you explain to me how the rustroot prospect method works? Is it better to ignore entirely the first method?

Thats cool, I didnt even know you could avoid taking cave-in damage by sprinting away. Does rustroot examine the layer below you meaning for example if I was on the overworld and used the extract it would sense a ore vein underground from me? or could I be in the cave and it would just examine the area below my character? its been awhile since I played so im relearning all the newb shit lol

Yea you have to use the rustroot to locate stuff the layer directly below you, but you still have to be close enough to the ore for it to direct you towards it. So in order to prospect layer 1 you have to be in the overworld.

Before you get a fresh new concussion, let me warn you that this does not have a 100% success rate. You can't avoid the first one or two pieces of falling debris, but running away lets you avoid all the other debris.

But how will this be useful if I have to build a mine hole from the over world? Or is there a way to locate that spot in a cave after you use a rustroot?
