Question about Boar Spear

I know that for swords they don't factor into your Melee combat, does the Boar Spear work the saem way? I was interested in hunting with one but i have little to no investment in my melee combat skill.

Also when you throw it at an animal do you lose the spear or does it 100% drop to the floor?

raise your ua, all restorations use ua and ua attacks are good for raising openings, unlike mc attacks, which are awful for trying to raise opening and are supposed to be just a damaging move

Weapons do factor into melee combat: as damage. They don't add weight to moves, though. that's based on the attack you used and the level of your skill.

The problem with hunting and Boar spears is that they don't qualify as an edged weapon. This means they can't use chop, sideswipe or cleave. This leaves your potential damage dealing moves as Quick Barrage spam or Sting. Spamming QB is a melee combat ability for a red opening, so that's a nogo without MC investment. Sting requires blue and green openings as well as IP, which while possible with UA is a pretty slow process without using MC maneuver parry to get it "for free" effectively.

Sadly boar spear is not a weapon you can use without MC because of this. Any weapon that can use Chop or Sideswipe can be used that way though.

Far as I know the spear always drops, but it can fly into water and get lost.

Boar spears are broken for hunting. You can just trap an animal and hold down button for an appropriate attack move.
Your range will be higher than the animal so you never get hit.
