I found 5 nodes and 2 rough areas to dig on yesterday alone.

You're doing something wrong.

Low quality rustroot extract, perhaps? Range checked on use scales very quickly with quality, I think it's 10 tiles at q10 and 30 tiles at q20 or something? I imagine if you're using <q10 extract you won't even find ore right in front of you.

Not sure, I was using around q15, and I was expecting to find stuff with retaliative ease based on the quantity of extract I was prospecting with.

Don't even bother with q < 20. Better try to reach closer to 30, otherwise it's more of a blind luck to find a spot than prospecting.

You using extract ql 1? For me it's easy to find ore. I just use rustroot every 10 tiles horizontally and vertically and always get something. But thats maybe because i use rustroot above caves so maybe ores are more common near caves?

I have prospected a quite big cave system of 15 minimaps and only found ore in two of of them - so ore is not guaranteed to be everywhere.
