Is a Stone Axe an "edged weapon"?

I'm testing out Sideswipe... And it *seems* better than punching so far. But the animation still shows me punching (axe is in my left hand, shield in right)

Yes it does, and sideswipe with a stone axe will outdamage punch notably. Especially if you can use a yellow opener to help it out.
