How do I build a good combat deck?

Postby Buddy7787 » Tue Mar 05, 2019 10:32 pm

I feel like I grasp and have read how combat works, but I don't quite see the point of using a lot of moves or see synergy with them. Anyone got some suggestions that go past just doing the quick green punch until you win out in the end?

I'm a total noob so I use this:

Low blow x 4 > Go for the jugular > Low blow x 2 > Go for the jugular (and repeat)

My only issue with that is that low blow only does damage on blue, but opens green, so while your building IP you aren't causing damage and that chip damage could add up.

You are right, I usually start with a few punches, so it'd be like: Punch x2 > Low blow x 4 > Go for the jugular

Kicks > Haymaker could be the most effective approach then?

Too bad I don't have kick yet :|

As you defeat more and more animals, you will obtain more combat moves (the animals you kill determine what moves you can learn from them). Some moves may seem fairly weak at first, but when paired with others can actually be quite decent.

Not many people will post their working builds here though because that would draw attention to those moves which means people are more likely to counter that build. In other words, by sharing our builds they become weaker. Come up with your own unique approach and it will probably be better than any cookie-cutter build that has been suggested to you (assuming you actually understand how they interact with one another and you aren't just picking random moves).

Take a look at the wiki and try to work out your own build with moves that have synergy with one another. Some moves are just straight up mandatory though (*cough* zig-zag ruse *cough*).

For animals uppercut sideswipe is good, quick barrage + cleave when you get a b12.

Loot chop/take aim (basically never happens with current card looting system) or uppercut/sideswipe (ants/bats/foxes for this)
Raise MC to 15, swap to using shield up for defense (also awesomely cheap armor when you're hurting for mats early)
Raise MC to 40, keep raising ua/mc in the 3:4 ratio
Loot Quick Barrage/Cleave for upper/side/QB/cleave and transition into using parry for pushing cleaves when you want to use them.
Hop off the shield up crutch and move into parry to free up a hand slot.

This is my preferred hunting setup. It's not the only way to do it, but it works. Unarmed pure + sideswipe after you've made the openings is viable. MC pure focusing on QB/Cleave is also possible. PvP I've heard is better to have a combo ua/mc because of how powerful upper is on openings while QB is a must as well.

uppercut/sideswipe/quickbarrage/cleave/storm of swords || quick dodge/sidestep/zigzag/takeaim/parry

Everthing you need for hunting up to moose/bear, deck requires a sword equipped. Not useless in pvp although far from optimal I'm sure. Ignore card distribution, I don't have everything I want so they aren't shuffled the way I intend to when I get all 5/5s. Agi is very important for combat, don't let it lag.
