Gemcutter's wheel formula's working

Postby Draguslayer » Sun Mar 10, 2019 9:18 pm

Looks like it's not a simple question.
According to wiki, we have 2 softcaps. First one from skills - 5th root from dex*perc*psyche*masonry*lore. Second one - from quality of gemcutter's wheel direct and the second one softcapped first one. The result of second one softcap is the chance of succed to cut the gem.
So. What if result of rot will be something like 300 with quality of gemcutter's wheel will be 100? In theory, chance to succeed will be 200%. What will be with gem with this chance? How does this work? And how do i suppose to find quality of my gemcutter's wheel, if inspect gives only what size of gems i can cut?

It doesn't say that it directly translates to %% of chance of success. Only
Your chance to succeed when cutting increases with all the values presented by the gemcutting recipe

which I'd read as 100% at infinity. Doesn't make sense otherwise.

i am pretty sure your chance increases exponentially - meaning the higher ur stats the less significant the increase of chance you get otherwise we all would be sportibg biggest and finest gems in a couple of weeks

Okay, if 100% is infinite, than any ideas what's the formula? If i have Image this much, what chance? before softcapping by wheel.
And still - how do i know the quality of my wheel?

Well, if we look at the jorb's notes directly (not via wiki) it seems to be more clear:

Your chance to succeed when cutting increases with all the values presented by the gemcutting recipe, i.e. dexterity, perception, psyche, masonry, and lore. The Gemcutter's wheel softcaps the quality of the gems.

I read it as root of stats affects the chance of success in an obscure way. The q of the wheel just softcaps the quality of the resulting gem.

You should be able to see the q of the wheel by inspecting it I think?

By inspecting it i see only what size of gems i can cut, not quality.
What do you mean by "obscure way"?
Ok, quality of gemcutter's wheel don't have so big matter -that nice.

Nobody knows exact formula. Jorb thinks he knows but he doesn't. Loftar used to know but forgot. :)

Change to the 'System' window, then inspect it. There are two lines of text that appear on inspection and only one will show on the pop-up. This happens with a lot of other things as well (Eg: trees). To see the quality of some things, you need to have the 'System' window open.
