According to the wiki I can only place a banner on a village claim and a banner claims a 60x60 area around it. So some of the area claimed by the banner is going to be inside already claimed land. Can I build a banner at the edge of my village claim, walk 30 tiles from that banner and drop a second one, then destroy the first banner thus gaining the full 60x60 but only using one banner?

In theory your plan should work, but have you tried to break a banner? Unless you ate a ton of STR food it's easier to just increase your flax/hemp farm...

The removing of the flag doesn't save the flax needed for the operation, only resulting authority drain and one tile of space. And yes, realistically speaking it's a wrecking ball business, not just click and destroy.

I was not trying to save flax, I am just being OCD about having the exact amount of standing banners and authority drain necessary to claim the area I want. It's not really worth it to build a wrecking ball and knock down the first banner atm, however, my village is not a square on a flat piece of land. It may be desirable to remove a banner for various reasons in the future.

Authority drain doesn't end up being an issue for most players, but if you care about it the yes, bashing every other banner will work. 144 strength and a sledge hammer to do it by hand
